Pet Portraits

Pet portraits are the most requested custom canvas we make. Send a photograph of your dog,
cat, horse or rabbit and it comes back as a numbered canvas you paint yourself — which is
why people who would never buy a commissioned portrait end up with one on the wall.

Choosing the photo

Eye level beats looking down. A photo taken from standing height mostly shows the top of an
animal’s head; crouching to their eye line captures the face people actually recognise. Daylight
near a window is better than flash, which flattens fur and produces reflective eyes.

Dark fur needs light more than any other subject — a black dog photographed in shadow
gives very little for the numbered areas to work with, because the detail that makes the face
recognisable lives in subtle changes of tone.

More than one pet

Two or three animals on one canvas works, but size up. Each face needs enough area for its
markings to stay distinct, and on a small canvas two similar-looking dogs start to converge.

Before it is printed

We email you a digital preview of the canvas to approve first, so you can see how your pet’s
face has translated before anything is produced. Kits ship free worldwide once approved.
